PSYCHOANALYSIS OF UKRAINE-RUSSIA WAR

Giuseppe R. Brera- pag.304  –  ISBN  9798292347996  $ 25

Psychoanalysis of the Ukraine–Russia War is the first book in the world to propose a peace strategy based on a scientific analysis of the conflict from a psychoanalytic perspective.

Written by Professor Giuseppe R. Brera, Rector of Ambrosiana University and Coordinator of the International Committee of the Universal Declaration of the Rights and Duties of Young People, the book draws on the author’s training in socioanalysis under Professor Franco Fornari, founder of psychoanalytic polemology, and Director of the Milan Medical School. It explains, in a didactic manner, the deeper reasons for the Ukraine–Russia war, beyond appearances and conventional geopolitical thinking.

The essay analyzes the Russian–Ukrainian conflict starting from the socioanalytic axiom that war is always the result of archaic, anthropological defenses that inextricably link death to war. These arise from paranoid–schizoid defenses against the depressive anxiety of mourning—humanity’s death sentence—driven by a phantasmatic regression that paralyzes social and economic life, culminating in the triumph of Thanatos, the death instinct in culture. This dynamic, ignored by diplomacy, is now leading to an escalation that must be halted to stop the ongoing massacre of young people and civilians, the destruction, and the threat it poses to the entire world.

The socioanalytic reading of the conflict, inspired by Melanie Klein’s analysis of the child’s original emotional life—explained didactically in the book—reveals the war as the psychodynamics of a psychotic family in which parents do not allow their children to form their identities. The essay proposes a therapeutic strategy aimed at affirming national identities without resorting to war, and it unmasks the role of the West, afflicted by a pandemic of the Polyphemus, Herod, and Caiaphas syndromes. The author analyzes their pathogenesis and shows how they turn the Ukrainian people and the lives of young Europeans and civilians into a sacrificial altar.

Introducing a new comparison between the psychodynamics of conflict and theoretical physics, the text explains how the psychoanalytic interpretation of war and the Christian moral code—rooted in Western culture—are essential for building a peace strategy, which is presented in detail.

The essay also outlines the theoretical foundations and practical actions   of the mediation efforts since 2022 carried out by the International Committee for the Universal Declaration of Rights and Duties, which the author has pursued through numerous initiatives since February 2022. It can serve as a textbook for aspiring diplomats.
